US envoy Nides says West Bank violence and Iranian threat are ‘equally concerning’
Speaking at a conference at Reichman University in Herzliya, US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides said he believed escalating tensions in the West Bank were just as significant a threat to Israel. than Iran and its terrorist proxies.
“Obviously, Iran and its proxies are a fundamental [threat]and [US President Joe] Biden said we weren’t going to sit back and allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon,” Nides said.
“But equally important is what is happening in the West Bank. I try to keep the vision of the two-state solution alive. I fundamentally believe that for Israel to remain a democratic state, we need a two-state solution. I want to change the situation on the ground to make that possible, to keep that vision alive,” he says.
“It is important for us not to lose sight of what could happen if the Palestinian situation worsens, especially in the West Bank,” Nides added.
