HAIFA, Israel. Elbit Systems has been awarded a $200 million contract to provide electronic warfare (EW) and airborne laser technology to protect military helicopters from an unidentified country in the Asia-Pacific region, the company said in a statement. .
“Self-protection suites” include Passive Infrared Airborne Warning Systems (PAWS IR) and Mini-MUSIC Direct Infrared Countermeasure Systems (DIRCM), the statement said.
“These protective suites are designed to increase the survivability and mission effectiveness of helicopters in arenas threatened by shoulder-fired heat-seeking anti-aircraft missiles,” the statement continued. “The protective suites to be provided will be installed on board attack and utility helicopters.”
Elbit said in the statement that the company has seen growing demand around the world for airborne protection solutions for aircraft, especially helicopters, as the threat from anti-aircraft missiles increases.
