Tel Aviv football match between Juventus and Atletico Madrid canceled due to ‘security situation’
A pre-season friendly football match between Juventus and Atletico Madrid is called off.
The match between the Italian and Spanish teams was due to take place on Sunday evening at the Bloomfield stadium in Tel Aviv.
The match was canceled “due to the current security situation”, the Spanish club said in a report.
While Tel Aviv has not been targeted since ongoing fighting began on Friday afternoon, sirens sounded in the suburbs of Holon and Bat Yam.
On Friday, the Tel Aviv municipality opened the city’s bomb shelters.
The majority of projectiles fired on Saturday targeted southern towns, but rockets were fired at the central town of Modiin around noon.
It was unclear whether Islamic Jihad had limited capabilities for major attacks on more distant towns after Israel‘s airstrikes on terror targets in the Gaza Strip, or whether it had made a conscious decision to do not intensify further.
