Rambam free of COVID patients, as last person hospitalized dies
The Rambam Healthcare Campus in Haifa is free of COVID-19 patients, a spokesperson said on Saturday evening, after a woman in her 50s succumbed to the disease. The patient, a northern resident, arrived at the hospital in May in serious condition, the hospital said. She was not vaccinated and suffered from underlying medical conditions. There is yet another patient, a male, who is hooked up to an ECMO machine and in critical condition. However, he recovered from the virus himself a long time ago and is instead battling the severe after-effects of the disease. In total, Rambam has treated 15,100 COVID-19 patients in 15 months, the spokesperson said. Of these, 310 died of the disease. In Israel, 6,417 people have died from the virus out of 839,539 who have been diagnosed with it. The health ministry reported only 199 active cases in the country on Friday, including 39 in serious condition. More than 5.4 million Israelis have been vaccinated with at least one injection against the coronavirus. The number of people vaccinated is expected to increase, the Ministry of Health having last week approved the vaccination of some 600,000 young people aged 12 to 15 years from this Sunday.
