Palestinian shot dead after opening fire on military post near Nablus – IDF

A Palestinian reportedly opened fire at a military position near the northern West Bank city of Nablus on Thursday evening and was shot dead by Israeli soldiers, the army said.
According to the Israel Defense Forces, several armed Palestinians arrived in vehicles at a military post between Nablus and Huwara. A person got out of the car and opened fire.
“The gunman was identified by troops operating in the area,” the IDF said, adding that soldiers returned fire and wounded him.
He was taken to an Israeli hospital for medical treatment and was to be questioned.
Palestinian media, citing the Palestinian Red Crescent medical service, said two people were being treated for gunshot wounds.
The other men in the car apparently fled, and the IDF said another Palestinian vehicle approached the area and took the shooter’s weapon.
The IDF launched a manhunt for the remaining members of the cell.
No soldiers were injured, the IDF said.

Footage leaked online showed a car with shattered windows, apparently from Israeli gunfire.
The incident follows a spike in shootings in the area in recent weeks.
On Sunday, two Palestinian gunmen were killed in an Israeli military raid in Nablus, and earlier this month shots were fired at two IDF posts near the Palestinian city.
The recent shootings came amid high tensions in the West Bank, as Israeli security forces stepped up operations following a deadly wave of terror attacks against Israelis that left 19 people dead earlier this year.
