Palestinian seriously injured in Jenin clashes taken to Israeli hospital for treatment

Rambam Hospital in Haifa confirms reports that a man injured in clashes in the West Bank city of Jenin arrived by military helicopter for treatment.

The hospital stresses in a press release that the man is not a member of the Israeli security services.

The hospital says the man was shot and is on a ventilator.

He is in serious condition, the hospital said.

Although rare, it is not uncommon for Palestinians injured in clashes to be treated by Israeli doctors, particularly if the security services wish to question them.

The man was injured during a raid by Israeli security forces on the West Bank home of the terrorist who carried out the deadly attack in Tel Aviv.

The Israel Defense Forces said Palestinian gunmen opened fire on troops operating in the city of Jenin and other nearby villages.

A Palestinian was killed, the Palestinian Authority Health Ministry said. He was reportedly a member of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorist group.

There were 13 Palestinians injured – the Harretz daily reports that one of the injured is a 19-year-old woman.

We tell a critical story

Israel is now a much bigger player on the world stage than its size suggests. As a diplomatic correspondent for The Times of Israel, I am well aware that Israel’s security, strategy and national interests are always under scrutiny and have serious implications.

It takes poise, determination, and knowledge to accurately convey the story of Israel, and I come to work every day aiming to do just that.

Financial support from readers like you allows me to travel to witness both the war (I have just returned from a report in Ukraine) and the signing of historic agreements. And it keeps The Times of Israel the place readers around the world turn to for accurate information about Israel’s relationship with the world.

If it’s important to you that independent, factual coverage of Israel’s role in the world exists and thrives, I urge you to support our work. Will you join the Times of Israel community today?

Thanks,

Lazarus Bermandiplomatic correspondent
