Man arrested after aggravated public assault in Westbank – West Kelowna News

UPDATE 7 p.m.
RCMP said a man was in custody following an aggravated assault in West Kelowna this afternoon.
Police were called over a report of a man assaulting a woman on a sidewalk in the 2500 block of Main Street, West Kelowna at 3:20 p.m.
While police did not specify the type of attack, witnesses told Castanet it was a stabbing. The victim was rushed to hospital with serious injuries, Cpl. Tammy Lobb.
The suspect fled but was captured by police after a foot chase and arrested for aggravated assault. The man is in police custody as the investigation into the incident continues.
The investigation is being led by the West Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section, which says the attack was not random and the parties knew each other.

UPDATE 5:40 p.m.
A company employee near the crime scene said a woman was stabbed by a man outside the house now wrapped in police tape.
The witness said the assailant was captured by police a short distance away.
The victim’s condition is not known, but emergency teams have been observed providing care on the sidewalk.
Kelowna RCMP say they are preparing a brief statement on the incident. Officers are still on the scene to collect evidence.
UPDATE 4:35 p.m.
The house on the corner of Main Street and Paynter Road in downtown Westbank is wrapped in crime scene tape.
Traffic continues on Main Street / Hwy 97 with a lane closure in place.
The RCMP have yet to comment on the incident.

A police incident slows westbound traffic on Highway 97 in downtown Westbank.
Details are limited, but traffic slows down to Butt Road.
Witnesses say several RCMP vehicles are involved.
