Eran Kolirin’s latest film, Whether it’s in the morning, won the lion’s share of the top prizes in the Israeli feature film competition at the Haifa International Film Festival on Sunday night, including Best Picture as well as Best Director and Best Screenplay, for Kolirin.

The film, which tells the story of an Arab-Israeli who travels to his hometown for a wedding and gets stuck there, based on a novel by Sayed Kashua, also won the best actor award for Ehab Elias Salami. He plays a taxi owner who fights against gangsters who want him to pay for his protection.

Kolirin, who led The group’s visit in 2007, thanked its cast, crew and Kashua, and said the film was created in a “love bubble”. The film is nominated for 15 Ophir Awards.

Reymonde Amsallem won the award for best actress for the film The house on rue Fin.

The winner of the award for best Israeli documentary is Yael Kipper and Ronen Zaretsky Portrait, a look at a woman who has been abused by her abusive husband and who paints other women who have been victims of domestic violence. Kifaya Ayati, the subject of the film, attended the ceremony and said that if women were not protected from violent men, thousands of women would live their entire lives in fear.

Radu Muntean ÃŽntregalde, a Romanian film about volunteers whose gaze changes when they are forced to spend the night in an isolated village, won the Carmel Competition for Best International Film.

Laura Wandel Playground, a Belgian film about the difficulties of growing up, won the Golden Anchor competition for best first film.

Haifa Mayor Einat Kalisch-Rotem presented the awards for the Israeli short film competition and interim festival director Yaron Shamir explained how difficult it had been to organize the festival, but how difficult it was to organize the festival. it had gone well, with tens of thousands of viewers in attendance.

But politics was not absent from the debates. The Let It Be Morning stars, who did not attend the film’s world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival to protest the film being labeled Israeli, were mostly absent from Tuesday’s ceremony. Ehab Elias Salami, who won the award for Best Supporting Actor, was present, but Juna Suleiman, who won the award for Best Actress (as well as an award for Best Casting, since she was also the Casting Director of the film), was not present and issued a statement which read, “The moments of recognition and appreciation are some of the most exciting for any filmmaker and actor. In a normal situation, I should have been. feel happy to receive the award, but unfortunately that is impossible when there are efforts to erase my Palestinian identity. ”Alex Bakri, who won the award for best actor, also skipped the awards ceremony and asked one of the producers to read a statement criticizing Israel’s policy towards the Palestinians.
