Jefferson Parish Sheriff says MPs fired shots in chase through Westbank, suspect arrested

The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating after an assistant fired shots in a pursuit on the Westbank Expressway, according to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Joseph Lopinto said the shooting took place in Marrero. This happened around 10:30 p.m. Thursday night on Avenue G and Fourth Street. The suspect suffered minor injuries and is stable at an area hospital, according to the sheriff’s office. Lopinto identified the suspect as Marlon Boudoin, 52, from Marrero, and said he was arrested on Friday in connection with the incident. The JPSO said MPs responded to several attempted burglaries and theft in locations in the Second and Third Districts on Thursday evening. At one of the locations, a witness provided a description of the suspicious vehicle, according to Lopinto. Lopinto said the vehicle was seen leaving the area of ââan incident in the 7300 block of the Westbank Expressway around 9:45 p.m. At least one deputy shot the driver, according to the JPSO. There were multiple interactions between the driver and his deputies, and more than one incident in which MPs responded to the driver’s attempts to run over them with gunfire, Lopinto said. Lopinto said the chase ended near the intersection of Barataria Boulevard and Fourth Street. The driver was taken into custody and transferred to a hospital in the region for treatment. Boudoin was arrested on two counts of attempted burglary, one count of theft, one count of attempted theft and one count of aggravated flight from an officer. Additional charges are expected as the investigation continues. A member of parliament was treated for a broken hand sustained during one of the periods when Boudoin crashed into his vehicle, and Boudoin remains under treatment at a local hospital for gunshot wounds. Lopinto said that after fleeing the store in the 7300 block of the Westbank Freeway, Boudoin was located near the intersection of Garden Rd. And Westbank Expressway when MPs attempted to stop him. During the pursuit that followed, there were several incidents in which he used his vehicle as a weapon to attempt to injure MPs and MPs unloaded their guns at Boudoin, according to Lopinto.
