Israeli forces capture 2 escaped Palestinian prisoners
Tel Aviv: Israeli police said on Saturday that security forces captured two of six Palestinian prisoners who escaped from a prison on September 6.
A police spokesperson said in a statement that the two men were arrested Friday evening by a team of the Shin Bet internal security forces near Mount Precipice, near the city of Nazareth, the news agency reports. Xinhua.
Video footage released by security forces shows that they were arrested without resistance.
Police said the two men, identified as Yaqub Kadri and Muhammad Arda, affiliated with the Palestinian Islamic Jihad militant group, were taken for questioning.
Israeli news channel Channel 12 TV reported that information from members of an Arab-Israeli family in Nazareth helped police locate the suspects.
The two approached the family to ask for food, and the family immediately called the police.
Six Palestinian prisoners escaped Monday from Gilboa prison in northern Israel in a rare escape that sparked a massive manhunt in Israel and the occupied West Bank.
Police believe the other four escapees managed to reach “Area A,” areas of the West Bank that are under the full civilian and security control of the Palestinian Authority.
