DSA campaign to expel Bowman for visit to Israel reveals bigotry

Members of the Democratic Socialists of America are furious with Representative Jamaal Bowman and want him expelled from their ranks. His crime? Visit Israel.

That’s right. The group wants to remove Bowman from membership for simply visiting the Jewish state. It doesn’t matter that Bowman is a keen leftist who aligns himself with 99% of the demented views of the DSA, including some of its anti-Israel positions. And that he aligns himself with the representatives of the members of the “squad”, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Cori Bush, Ilhan Omar and Rashida Tlaib – sharp critics of Israel who have at times displayed blatant anti-Semitism.

Bowman’s trip to Israel in November with five other members of the Democratic House prompted several sections of the DSA to demand his ouster and forced the group to issue a statement calling the issue “its highest priority at the moment.”

“Our platform proudly affirms its continued support and involvement with the Palestinian-led group. . . the BDS movement and efforts to eliminate US military aid to Israel, while resisting the “normalization” of relations between the Israeli government and other governments, ”he wrote.

It’s hard to think of a better example of the DSA’s lack of tolerance for diverse viewpoints – and its quirky fanaticism towards the only democracy in the Middle East.
