94-year-old playwright arrested for alleged murder of his wife in Tel Aviv

A well-known 94-year-old author and playwright was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of the murder of his wife.
The man, whose name is banned from publication, was arraigned this week over his wife’s death in Tel Aviv over a year ago. Police say the 87-year-old was found dead in her bathtub last August by paramedics after her husband called an ambulance.
The woman was found covered with bruises, and an autopsy was therefore ordered, after which it was decided that her death was not accidental. Police opened a secret investigation into the incident, leading to the arrest.
The suspect, who was placed under house arrest by Bat Yam Magistrates’ Court for 30 days later Thursday, denies any wrongdoing.
“Where have the police been so far and how does the allegation of alleged danger to the public to justify his arrest accord with the fact that a full 14 months have passed in which the man has remained at home? him ?” his lawyers said in a statement quoted by Channel 12.
The arrest came weeks after the Haaretz daily reported that the suspect had never been formally questioned by police and that there were inconsistencies in what he told investigators.
According to the newspaper, police are in possession of evidence that the woman was beaten and suffocated to death, contradicting the suspect’s claim that she committed suicide.
